I suspect this also caused (or increased) the tendency for congressperson's offices to specialize in certain issues/subjects and become the reference for their in-party colleagues who know less

I think we need to add the ability to recall and bar elected officials to our system.

When I see these types of posts, it makes me think they've never contacted a congressperson's office before, if they vote at all. America's political parties have notoriously weak whip power. And constituents can influence them to make more hardline votes.
