Hello 👋 admin 2 here Today marks my 2 year anniversary of joining this team to keep #ConnectingGaza To "celebrate" & for the next 24h, I'm matching don@tions until we reach 100 USD (raising 200 USD total) I spend 2h daily for this fundraiser on average = 1460 hours in 2 years (equivalent to 62 days straight or 9 months of a full time job working 8h per day 5 days a week). It's all worth it because any kind of lifeline reaching Palestinian people in Gaza is priceless. I'm immensely grateful to people who trust us with their money, to the ones sharing the campaign, some of them I've seen for 2 years now, some I used to see regularly and hope they're okay even if I don't see them anymore. I'm grateful for the artists who agreed to do projects with us. I'm grateful for the reminder that behind each Palestinian account is a whole life and story everytime a new request comes, to not get numb. I'm grateful for my co-admins, translators and designer. Everyone of us had struggles this year, health both physical and mental or family problems, and we still try our best. Just for today I'll allow myself to share some of the things that make it harder and harder to continue: - When I arrived back in 2024 we used to raise more than 1400 USD and send about 40 units to @Connectinghu_ weekly - We also used to have thousands of rts and dozens of quotes at least on our main post - People used to do matching challenges, projects, raffles, artwork commissions to help us raise funds and now it's almost 0. The ones who tried can't get people to join I /know/ every fundraiser is struggling, some people moved on, others can't give as much as they used to because the cost of living is 📈 almost everywhere. But another part of my brain can't accept it because the situation in Gaza didn't change. It's still horrible, eSIMs are still needed, so much effort is spent trying to erase and silence these voices. These last few months have been hard because what's been motivating, helping and feeling useful, is turning into a very stressful situation. Having to say no to people reaching out for help is heartbreaking everytime. Having people thinking we don't want to help them, or worse that we're a s/cam stealing money but not actually helping because we can't get a new eSIM for them because of lack of funds is horrible. (I'm not blaming them, they're desperate) Recently, not having enough to top up plans in time has been really stressful. I sometimes cover 1 or 2 plans with my own funds but I can't do it everytime. I've been forced to think about whether we'll have to choose what plans to top up, what users to drop and I h@te it 😔 I really really wish and do all I can so we don't get there. It also feels lonely sometimes, doing more tasks than I should while team members are going through things, making urgent calls that are not shared a lot. I know the algo/rithm is NOT helping and a lot of people left this platform but it's undeniable the engagement is not the same as it used to be. I've took it upon myself to open accounts on other platforms but we have very little reach, I organised projects with artists but only a few participates and are often regular donors already, we made a call for a volunteer to help with visuals but got no answer, I spread the word irl but even people who find it's a great way to help and take cards to pass around don't seem to actually donate unless if they directly give me the money they have in the moment. Sometimes I can't help but wonder for how long we'll be able to keep going. I want to keep helping as long as eSIMs are needed and I'll do it as much as I can with the means available. I think of the people trusting us, both donors and users, and I grit my teeth to keep going.
