Conor Oberst. Phoebe Bridgers. “Lua.”

Beautiful song, perhaps Conor’s best. Nice duet.

I fly out tomorrow (funerals take forever there).

If you would like to buy one of my recordings of classic stories, that'd be nice.

My father got to pick my name. My mother gave my older brother her father's name.

My father chose my name, on a Johnny Cash "boy named Sue" basis that would
* maximally piss off his wife's bigoted family
* get me repeatedly beaten up
* remind people of the CONS operator

Conor's my name.

My reading of Conor's theory was that the swing to Democrats is going to be more modest in blue trifecta states, and I think that's on the money. But I would still expect some kind of swing to blue, it just might be 4-10 points instead of 10-20 points.

She won by 6.4% in 2022. I’m interested to see if Conor’s theory holds and she wins by a similar margin, or if the blue wave extends to Dem strongholds.

Jim's been with Conor and Caleb about eighteen months and they spend most of their time together in the flat above his shop. The rest of the time he uses it as a quiet office... but that might be about to change.

Still feeling out Conor's Servo. Not as vocally different from Baron, but Baron's going more... gravely?... with his delivery, so Conor's smoother voice might distinguish more in time. He does seem to be leaning into the "theater kid" part of Tom more, while Baron's got Josh-Tom's machismo.

The €4,000 award will support Conor’s research into the life of his great-great-grandfather, John Joseph Brandon, who spent much of his twenties travelling through New Zealand and the Pacific Islands as a ship’s painter aboard HMS Wallaroo in the late 19th century.

Conor's worried he shouldn't have traded Rufo his family's cow for that handful of magic beans.

I think Conor's point is that investment in AI is keeping the entire US economy afloat right now and that without that we would probably be in a major recession, which is a hard time to make anything good happen?

This is literally Conor's whole thing
September 29, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Oh Conor's being dumb about Rufo again. Glad I logged on today.
He wouldn’t have gotten tripped up if his heuristic was Chris Ruffo was a bad faith piece of shit, but instead…

His prejudice is just that Chris Ruffo is a cool guy who sometimes makes mistakes I guess.
September 28, 2026 at 11:45 PM
I'm sorry but Conor's excuse of "not keeping up with everyone in politics' posts" as a politics writer is an absolute farce considering Ruffo has testified in-front of Congressional committees at least once or twice now, along with many appearances on the State level.

Just absurd.

I considered Conor and Julian Sanchez the closest thing I had to a political lodestar, for years. Conor’s credulity became just…unbelievable. Not saying he had to be a BlueSky Libertarian(ish) like the best of them (Julian, Aaron Ross Powell), but it’s like he’s stuck in amber given the climate.

Ol' Conor's not the brightest bulb in the box.
September 28, 2026 at 11:12 PM
For a long time I thought Conor's whole deal was pretending to be much stupider than he actually was, and I eventually just decided he's not actually pretending.
September 28, 2026 at 11:11 PM
The thing about Conor's "I'm not mad, just disappointed" routine is that the first sentence (hell, the first clause) is just a lie.
With today’s latest Rufo scandal, he’s now on to mild consternation and disappointment.
