Here's a comparison of the early & final map screens as well. The date on the map of Britain was moved back by a century, from 900 to 800 AD, and the water on the map of Europe was changed from a parchment-yellow to blue.

Poking around in the Conquests of Camelot game files, I found an alternate palette with what might be a moodier sky design for the edge of the frozen lake at Ot Moor.

The version in-game is more realistic, but less dramatic.
