Whoa, I didn’t realize he meant MY landscaper…

Whoa, I had no idea he meant MY construction laborer…

Whoa, I didn’t realize he meant MY roofer…

Whoa, I had no idea he meant MY painter…

KEEP IT GOING!

today years old when I found out that Frances Tiafoe got into tennis because his dad was a day laborer at a construction site for a tennis center, where the family lives in the construction office after fleeing the civil war in Sierra Leone. what a story

Tom introduced himself to me tonight. He’s a former neighbor and has been a Facebook friend for years. Tom is a Vietnam veteran and retired union construction laborer. Tom, thanks so much for saying hello and thank you for your service!

So the Roman soldier with this absolutely ubiquitous dolabra (an entrenching tool similar to a pickaxe) is special, not because he is a combat engineer, but because the organization and discipline of the legion, combined with Roman social expectations, make him an effective construction laborer.

she's so cool for this

The fact that every Roman soldier can be a laborer seems like a small thing but it is, I'd argue, actually quite significant: a lot of armies have troops that for either reasons social status (Sir-Better-Than-You is not digging a trench) or organization aren't really useful for construction work.

one really funny bit in this is that it's one of the few Arnold movies that has an in-story justification for why his character is so muscular (he's a construction laborer) only to midway through the movie (SPOILER) reveal he's actually a different guy and it again makes no sense that he's so huge.
June 1, 1990. Can you believe it? That it's been so long? I don't know, man -- I'm not sure how trustworthy my memories are. All I know is this: I've got to get my ass to Mars. So here we go.
Again.

"warfighter" = construction laborer in a desert absent any opposition or any need for arms

Who exactly is the target market for Atlantic writers from Harvard telling people to work construction? Could Ezra make it to lunch time as a brick laborer? Because you don’t start out laying bricks, you start by carrying around mud and bricks for the bricklayers

Nurses are interesting in that they are strongly female coded and extremely well "respected" in the sense of asking people which professions they respect or admire, yet it's a very different respect than for a construction laborer

You can’t be pure enough to be safe from state domestic terrorism.

It doesn’t matter if you are a citizen or an immigrant or a refugee.

It doesn’t matter if you are an ICU nurse, a poet, a construction laborer, a kitchen worker, a parent—or even a child.

None of us are safe until we are ALL safe.

It's only fitting that subsequent reportage of the construction be in George Plimpton style. For example as a walk on day laborer

...and my dad, though a manual laborer who works in construction, is on the end of the working class spectrum where his income is enough to help support two disabled adult offspring who can't move out. Working class pick-up truck guy isn't struggling like barista enby, he's where everyone should be.

The historical Jesus was a poor day laborer from a poor family and a self-taught biblical scholar and teacher. He couldn’t stand how the bullying Romans and their religious enablers treated the people. Today he would be an immigrant construction laborer. He’d call out a rich pastor in a $500 suit.

LILIES OF THE FIELD

Poitier made cinema history with his uplifting, powerful performance in this drama film as an unemployed construction laborer who builds a chapel for a group of Catholic nuns in the desert, eventually changing his life forever.

Construction laborer. I think it used to specifically be railroads and canals

Yeah, but those construction laborer jobs are only temporary, while the AI center is being built.

Wealthy 2nd/3rd ring suburb of Minneapolis, where they had a construction laborer trapped on the roof of a project.
One of our Shakopee observers witnessed ICE pepper spray a baby today in Chanhassen.

(Yes. You read that right.)

The agent knew the baby was there. ICE does not make our communities safer. End Operation Metro Surge NOW!

Watching a news segment about shortages of construction workers in Florida because of the "stigma" of being a manual laborer. No mention of the fact that we are putting substantial numbers of construction workers in cages or deporting them. Apparently the US children do not yearn for physical labor.

Edgerton actually lost his whole herd, so he became a day laborer on a municipal project. He performed so well that he was made a staging crew leader. And that’s how Jim Edgerton ended up supervising the construction of the new school he opposed in that meeting.

Also factor in the loss of the undocumented laborer force that facilitated distribution, agriculture, food processing, and construction.

Any construction company, contractor, laborer, whatever should at the very least lose their licenses/certifications if they start construction without getting this approval
The Trump administration's argument is that the National Capital Planning Commission has jurisdiction over construction but not demolition

I put up three- and four-story scaffolds when I was a construction laborer. A crew of about five did it in half an hour.
