I think one of my core issues with so much contempory book marketing is that the Books That Sell just don't interest me b/c I've been in a mood for Books With Ideas, which sounds all conceited and superior, but I really don't mean it that way.

Germanium vs. silicon transistors aside (that's a complex subject), I think a lot of "magical" components are simply those that at one time or another were objectively the "best" choice compared to contempory alternatives.

Well all my ttrpg plans and ideas that I had at the start of the year are well and truly in the bin. My vision problems mean learning a new system is probably out of the question unless it can be kept real short. Plus I'm really into more contempory/alt universe type settings these days.

OK frustratingly, I have 2 legitimate, but completely differing sources for when this film takes place. One might assume modern times (2012 for this film's release date), except no, it either wakes place in the late 21st century, or the early 20th. Neither of which make sense for the contempory tech
