contra3 has it's awkward downtime every now n then, with the only real unforgiveable part being this climb that drags for the second midboss of stage 3. but i think the top down stages sort of manage to still evoke the 'feeling' of a runngun to me, while the singular vehicle autoscroller level is-

Contra 3 was less a localization goof more a quick reaction to the originally planned nes contra3(which was not originally a contra game at all but a low confidence new ip named arc hound)being delayed thus contra 4 the alien wars was quickly changed to contra 3 and the nes game renamed contra force
