I am a complete doomer about cooptation, ftr. I more or less just think you should say and advocate for what you think is true, and can defend on good grounds, and never bother trying to hedge against people coopting your ideas. Ideas can always be coopted, there is no defence against that.

The GOP doesn't think women are safe with "biological men" in women's restrooms. Yet, they still get angry when women choose the bear. Which goes to show that the GOP isn't really concerned about violence against women. They're just concerned about any threat to hierarchies of gendered power.

Ezra Klein is a serious threat to a world of true equality and justice because he is so effective at masking his service to the ruling class through (often faux) intellectual cooptation of progressive people who otherwise would support much more profound social change.

Strikes me that the vulnerabilities often identified in feminism—it’s internal fractiousness, the instability of its definitions, its susceptibility to cooptation—are not unique among social movements. But they appear to be seen as uniquely discrediting to feminism on the left.
