Strong SO2 degassing continues at Ambrym today, but the spatial resolution of satellite data has improved from 50 x 50 km (TOMS) to 3.5 x 3.5 km (#Tropomi), w/ much higher sensitivity to #volcanic emissions.

SO2 cloud from the Dec 8 #Manam #eruption drifting over the Bismarck Sea on Dec 9, observed by #Sentinel5P #Tropomi. Total SO2 mass measured in the cloud is ~10 kt. @ESA_EO @CopernicusData

Exploring the new #Sentinel5P #Tropomi SO2 data - comparing with @JPSSProgram OMPS data for the recent #Soputan (#Sulawesi) eruption. Nice to see general agreement in the total SO2 mass, but Tropomi resolves much more structure in the volcanic cloud. @CopernicusData @ESA_EO
