In 2010 I was lucky enough to be featured on Kirstie Allsopp’s Homemade Home (S.2 E.6) & it turns out it’s still doing the rounds. Just completed a mirror for a lovely customer who found me after discovering my 15 minutes of fame online! #kirstieallsopp #heritagecraft #coppersmithing #hare #hedgehog

Started making stuff because we didn’t have a budget. Leatherwork, pewtering, sewing, coppersmithing. Moved to Virginia, did timber framing and blacksmithing, had a chance to work in an 18th c foundry. Along the way I’ve added cordage, basketry, weaving, printmaking, silkscreen, woodcarving … 🤪

From a flat sheet of copper to a hand-made bowl. 🔨🥣

While East Essex Hackspace was out in force at #EMF2026, I managed to grab a place on a coppersmithing workshop with Urban Crafts Foundation.

Thanks! Over the year's I've done a lot of things to try things out. Coppersmithing, flintknapping, atlatls, throwing sticks, lots of slings (I was slinging well before the comic and the worldbuilding anywho)

I want to make sure things feel grounded

Just threw a lid for the bowl I raised ---um last year...
There is alot of clay left in that lid because I'm not sure what direction I'm going to take it in.
But I think I'll carve the handle right into it, then set a gem into the finial.

In some ways things are better, because there is less "gate keeping."
But there is also so much misinformation.

I remember reading a book on coppersmithing where at the time it was published, the author risked being murdered (by his own smithing guild) because he gave away secrets.

Coppersmithing is there

But really all forms of metalsmithing are important.

Hmm coppersmithing is on there and one of my ancestors wrote a book about it... 🤔

Hopefully I won't run into a sketchy copper merchant from Ur

I have a marine coppersmithing book written by one of my great-great grandfathers. Guess I better start studying lol

I think I am going to try to go to the tinsmithing/coppersmithing convergence this summer in June. I should make some knives, scribes/marking knives and some other tools to see what I can swap for

Metal bashing is good for the soul, if not neighbourly relations. I have been making lichen and brackets and am wondering if I can remain enthusiastic long enough to decorate a load of books, decorate an entire book case or create a jewellery collection. #fungilove #fungiart #coppersmithing

I do believe I might be Sheffield's leading maker of copper jellyfish bookmarks. 🤣
I can't compete against factory made goods so all I can do is relax into my weird space and hope I can find other strange people. #findyourniche #coppersmithing

Something to keep in mind for it if the "realistic" approach is desired is that they couldn't be or become a technologically advanced species without intervention from the surface, because fire and electricity. They'd also never be able to do metallurgy beyond maybe coppersmithing.

A young coppersmith apprentice at work - Sarajevo, 1950.

Coppersmithing in Sarajevo dates back to the 16th century, during the Ottoman Empire's rule. The city's old town, Baščaršija, became a thriving marketplace where artisans showcased their skills, including coppersmiths.

My local farmers market would make you think coppersmithing is still thriving. Not sure why it’s so popular here.

Between the illegitimate FedSoc 6 anointing Trump Bundesführer of the New American Theocracy and some recent frustrations with our draconian state courts, this day is really raining shit from on high.

Why couldn't I have gone into something useful like barrel making or coppersmithing?
