I've had an itch for a while to build (for once) something local
Originally just the one build, I decided for two houses from around me, one from La Serena clad in stucco and one from Coquimbo clad in sheets of brass & wood, common in port cities from all over Chile

The building on the left of the screen is based on a multiplex on La Serena's historic core. Built in the late 1930s, it bears strong influence from Art Deco & Historicist movements, yet in a modest, vernacular way. The building on the right is based around several houses on Coquimbo's English Quarter. Buildings like this are usually completely made of wood, including all ornament on the façades, influenced by American West Coast late XIX century design, and British ones from the same era, bearing some similarities to Australian & New Zealand architecture. I booted up Cities: Skylines to see if my RAM was failing (as a sort of stress test) and ended up playing for 3 days straight.

My latest project is recreating my hometown of La Serena, setting it sometime in the near future, (and with YIMBY wishful thinking).

View of Empalme square in Coquimbo, mostly kept as-is, with a replica of a train shelter on the site, towards a pedestrianized Aldunate St. Aldunate is Coquimbo's main street. Scale-wise, each building may represent 1-2 buildings. In the very background, a stand-in for the Third Millenium Cross on top of a tall hill. Aldunate Street, seen from Juan Agustín Alcalde St. towards Empalme Sq., pedestrianized, upzoned and turned into high-density housing. In the very background, the Coquimbo Commerce Institute can be seen on top of a hill. Balmaceda Avenue in La Serena. In real life, though a main throughfare, this shot is very suburban, consisting of car dealerships, auto repair shops and single-family homes. The gas stations (a Mapco, stand-in for former owner Copec, and a Petrobras, recently bought-out by Aramco) and Mormon church are kept for some semblance of realism. Trees are planted for shading and now the Metropolitan Public Transport Directory operates a tramline over the street. In the very background, towards the sea, the Nueva La Serena CBD can be seen. La Serena's Japanese Garden. Currently, there's no pagoda or Torii gate, but here in the future I see it turning into a Shintō site. In the very background, the Nueva La Serena business district.
