I think the *real* question is how does this hobby of ours reach and inspire a new generation of people when PCs keep going up in price and the accessibility of a console is now out of reach?

The real question now is, if consoles are just going to be walled garden PCs with inferior hardware and no disc drive, why would you ever buy one?
Games run worse and cost more on consoles. Backwards compatibility is iffy. No mods. You pay the manufacturer to use your own internet. So... why?

reminiscing about my old old core2duo PC that i used for over a decade, just putting newer GPUs in it every few years, which for the 2010s *worked great*

flashbacks to when i was upgrading a core2duo, with the pins, to a new one, that i sat on,
managed to meticulously unbend the half of CPU pins that got bent, but it took several hours over three days

IHDVGA (Inconveniently High Density VGA) extension lead.
IHDVGA was abandoned early on as keeping pins straight turned out more difficult than expected.
Most manufacturers still turned a profit by selling the leads without shells as convenent groundable wire brushes.

The perfect #ScummVM setup: MacOS 10.9 (mavericksforever.com) on MacMini Core2Duo, all audio out via Firewire to Edirol #FA-101, MIDI out from FA-101 to #MT-32, MT-32 audio out back in to FA-101. MIDI music and digital audio are mixed in hardware, with zero latency! 🤓
