Partnering with cybersecurity specialist Corero Network Security, GTT has increased the number of its global scrubbing centers to 13, adding new facilities in São Paulo, Brazil; Hong Kong, China; and Miami, United States. The additional scrubbing centers, which are integrated with GTT’s EnvisionCORE platform, mark a significant enhancement in the company’s global defense capabilities. They are strategically positioned to reduce in-region latency and improve real-time performance while equipping GTT to manage increasingly large-scale volumetric DDoS attacks across its global network. The expansion responds to a growing threat landscape. GTT reports a 242% increase in packet-per-second (PPS) attack volumes and a 128% rise in megabits-per-second (Mbps) attack sizes between the first and second half of 2024. These figures reflect an alarming escalation in the intensity of attacks aimed at overloading computing infrastructure, bandwidth, and network hardware such as firewalls and routers. With this latest investment, GTT’s scrubbing capacity has reached 4 terabits per second (Tbps), strengthening its ability to absorb and neutralize massive cyberattacks. At the core of GTT’s mitigation service is Corero’s SmartWall ONE technology, which enables sub-second detection and response to DDoS events. The system employs advanced techniques such as per-packet inspection and dynamic profiling, helping ensure continuity and protection for mission-critical applications. Fletcher Keister, Chief Product and Technology Officer at GTT, emphasized the global scope and precision of the expansion. “We are building a stronger, more responsive defense against today's increasingly complex cyber threats by extending our global Tier 1 IP backbone-enabled DDoS services into Latin America, and by strengthening our presence in Asia-Pacific and North America,” he said. “Our new scrubbing centers have been strategically placed in response to growing regional demand, improving both latency and security for our customers.” Notably, the São Paulo facility represents GTT’s first DDoS scrubbing center in Latin America - a move driven by increasing cyber activity in the region.
