'Caernarfon,' was painted by John Sell Cotman on his first trip to Wales in 1800 in the company of Paul Sandby Munn. The trips to Wales allowed Cotman to break away from his East Anglian surroundings, developing a more robust drawing style that he revisited throughout his life.

Pulled out my Cotman set to test out on the $3 Strathmore paper. I only used the included brush.
Cotman is pretty much THE default beginner set. It’s dead reliable with a classic color selection. I recommend the set of 14 as the beginner sweet spot ($25)

For this painting from 1809, John Sell Cotman will have sat on the opposite bank to capture these boatman on the river Yare to the east of Norwich. After some years as a student in London where he met Turner, Cotman returned to his home city around the year this work was made.

Did a quick sketch comparing three under $20 beginner watercolor sets: Van Gogh, Cotman, Prang.
Cotman glazed the best but overall, they all were fun and easy to use. They all come with brushes but the Van Gogh one is AWFUL.

Relatively little is known of the early career of the Suffolk painter Henry Bright. A pupil of John Sell Cotman, and a friend of Turner, he was a master at depicting the effects of sunlight and shadow. This pastel is 1850-ish.
