I’m experimenting with the Austrian railways’ new(ish) Nightjet Mini Cabin. They’re a sort of upgrade of couchettes; you gain in private space but it’s a bit enclosed particularly if you’re tall or wide. Or both.

- Couchettes can only be booked on return journeys, i.e. no one-way bookings
- Inbound leg must be *exactly one week* after the outbound leg
- Interrail passholders can only make one-way bookings, i.e. not use couchettes at all

Any Czech/CD experts out there? Why, when I book Prague-Bratislava do I only see couchettes, but if I book Prague-Budapest on same train, couchettes & sleepers appear?
I've already added a tip to book to Budapest and get off in Bratislava, but that won't work northbound.

Timetable 2026: Seems the Munich/Budapest/Prague-Krakow-Warsaw sleeper train will have separate portions for Warsaw and for Krakow & Przemysl. Theoretically good - but a significant downside is that Prague-Warsaw gets the sleeping-car, Prague-Krakow becomes couchettes-only.

Je me souviens d'un voyage de nuit vers Briançon dans un train dont les compartiments avaient 8 couchettes! J'avais l'impression d'être un cosmonaute.

Change in Nightjet policy: Sleepers have always been single-gender unless you book all berths in a compartment. From this year, Nightjet sleeper compartments are treated the same as couchettes, mixed-gender with an option for women to book a bed in a ladies-only compartment.

At last, there we are. The French government has in the last few years started to regrow the night train network (couchettes, not sleepers) but the train to remote Latour, with lots of winter sports and summer leisure market, never quite died out. #Shengen200
