@NYCChancellor @NYCSpeakerCoJo, across the country young people are demanding and winning #PoliceFreeSchools. Now is the time to practice culturally responsive sustaining education – greet students in September with support, not policing! #CounselorsNotCops @GGENYC

Sara Nelson’s coalition cut $60M in mental health funding for Seattle
schools students to keep taxes low for Amazon. Now they want to increase property taxes by $50M to pay police officers to patrol the hallways in Seattle Schools hallways. #CounselorsNotCops
We don't need more police officers in schools. We need school counselors and psychologists. Let's give South Seattle kids the skills they need to navigate life, rather than punishing them for learning differences.

We’re funding surveillance over support. That’s not safety. That’s criminalizing kids.

Having law enforcement in schools without counselors raises concerns about where students turn for support or help with minor issues. The lack of counselors is a more serious concern.

After Reading around a good bit people are that they are paying for surveillance over support. The SOR main job is the safety and well being of the people in the budling. So is moving them out or changing their rolls a smart decision?

At what point does removing SROs from schools cause a safety concern? Having that person on campus does provide some with peace of mind against foreign personnel. But do their duties impact the overall school experience?

I believe moving SRO out of the direct line of dealing with minor incidents would help out in schools and help younger kids get help. But completely replacing them all together would definitely cause some safety concerns

Today I read how the Detroit Justice Center urges schools to replace resource officers with restorative justice and mental health support. Teen Vogue reports police are often called for issues like meltdowns or overstimulation. #SchoolToPrisonPipeline #CounselorsNotCops #SPCH145advocateJ49

Wondering how to take action to address the ways that policing impact young people? Here's one way! Sign this petition, created by young people in California, calling for the state to invest in #HealthNotPunishment:

School counselors make a HUGE difference. They help kids feel safe at school and that's everything! Investing in more counselors is investing in our kids' well-being. Let's focus on support and not police in schools! #SchoolSafety #CounselorsNotCops
