Thinking of titles for a podcast about the history and resonances of the Duchy of Courland - "the Podcast of Courland and Semigallia" grand but unwieldly, "CourPod" snappy but ambiguous. But for the logo - the wonderfully menacing ensign of the mighty (genuinely!) Couronian navy

All set up for next Wednesday evening as the Military Staff Officers Gaming Group gathers again.

Running ‘Tigers in the Snow’ - Courland Peninsula, October, 1944 (Memoir ‘44 (Overlord Rules).

Have played this before - it’s a tough nut to crack, so should be good!

#OTD On October 5, 1944, Soviet forces landed on Saaremaa Island, pushing German troops toward the Syrve peninsula. Concurrently, the Red Army launched the Memel Offensive, cutting off German Army Group North from East Prussia and trapping them in the upcoming Courland Pocket.

Hanibalas Vytautas Lekteris was born in 1937 in the family of Count Konstantinas Lekteris and Simoneta Lekterienė, a former Slabotkė bar dancer. The Count belonged to an old Baltic German noble family with roots in Courland, but this branch of the family had settled in the Joniškis area in the 1800s
I should write a Hannibal fanfic that actually imbues the character with some actual cultural knowledge of Lithuania of like any meaningful sort, in a way that none of the adaptations, you know, have.

Courland tried too!

sure. just thought it was rather more glaring than the Duchy of Courland (a German colonial apartheid state)
March 12, 2026 at 12:41 PM
