Shandy Hall was the home of Irish born writer Laurence Sterne (1713-1768) whilst an anglican clergyman in Coxwold. Whilst living there he wrote several volumes of 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, and A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy.'

Newburgh Priory and it’s estate at Coxwold was originally built as an Augustinian Priory by Roger de Mowbray in 1145 Following the dissolution of the Priory it was turned into a family home. The current buildings date from the late 16th century with later additions. The house was

The lovely Fauconberg Arms in Coxwold, North Yorkshire, now bare stone but once lime coated, as we can see from archive images and physical evidence on the building (which survives particularly well behind the current sign!) 😀

#Abandoned hundreds of years ago. Byland Abbey, Coxwold, North Yorkshire, now an English Heritage site. The Abbey was established in 1155 and dissolved in 1538.
