#Craigleith
Craigleith Provincial Park is a small park and campground in the Blue Mountains. A WILDLY mixed bag, here's what we thought of our time spent there!

And so it begins... 🦭

Some very keen-eyed visitors were lucky enough to spot the first grey seal pup of the season on our Craigleith live camera today!

We're hopeful that many more will be born on the island over the coming weeks🤞

If you'd like to see some for yourself, why not visit our Discovery Experience, control the live Craigleith camera, and see how many seal pups you can find!🔍

Rachel & Reid, 1 of our #Conservation #DetectionDog teams were busy last week on the #FirthOfForth #Islands checking for rats. They visited #IsleOfMay, the Lamb, #Fidra and #Craigleith to check that these sites remain safe for #seabirds to breed @ukcehseabirds.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social
Today we welcomed a very special guest to the Isle of May; the Biosecurity for Life specialist sniffer dog Reid to check for rats on the island. Read all about it on todays blog: isleofmaynnr.wordpress.com

We were lucky enough to get places on @seabirdcentre.bsky.social SOS Puffin trip to Craigleith today. Very satisfying to cut down the mallow knowing that it will help access to burrows next year for the puffins.

This water is our lifeblood. It should be revered with our actions, not just words. Keep our lakes, wetlands and rivers cool and clean. Protect shorelines as biodiverse buffers.
No nuclear heat dumping
No untreated waste

Puffins are under pressure.

The Firth of Forth is a stronghold for this species in Scotland, but latest counts show a mixed picture.

While there has been a small increase on RSPB Fidra, declines have been recorded at Craigleith and other islands across the Forth 👉 www.seabird.org/blog/puffin_...

Through our work on the Lamb - and our partnership with @rspbscotland.bsky.social on their Craigleith and Fidra reserves – we’re striving to safeguard these spectacular seabirds for generations to come.

The Isle of May, one of the largest puffin colonies on the East Coast, recently reported a drop of 30%. And while the respective 20% and 15% declines on Craigleith and the Lamb are within more normal fluctuation levels, it remains a concerning reminder of how precarious life is for these seabirds.

Edinburgh was built on hard, creamy Craigleith Granola. When that began to be worked out it had to start importing foreign, red-hued granolas from likes of Ayrshire. Sure it kind of tastes the same, but deep down you know it really isn't... You might as well *shudder* be eating Glasgoranola
Apparently there used to be a tunnel from the Granola quarry in north Edinburgh, that went under the New Town and directly to Waverley

Requested one at Craigleith - though mindful the abysmal access from the railway path might not be helped by an increase in traffic. Badly needs dedicated cycleway access, that place.

Controversial statement; Vandalise your books!

My Late Grandad was a Relief Clerk for British Railways around Edinburgh in the 1950's.
I had taken on some of his books and in an appendix of this one he had marked every passenger station he worked with a tick and each Goods station with a G.

For context 350k passengers using the tram stop at Edinburgh Park / Gyle each year and 590k trips on the path at Roseburn (not counting other trips eg western general / Craigleith from the north). So while the tram carries a few million, it’s not like only a couple of Karens use the path.

Data from climate studies shows that Edinburgh’s annual rainfall has increased by roughly 10% compared to late 20th-century averages, with winter rainfall spiking by nearly 29%.

Edinburgh plans upgrading drainage in Craigleith & planting 25,000 trees annually to absorb some excess surface water

The Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick has launched an immersive exhibit on puffins and gannets, complete with live cameras on the Bass Rock and Craigleith colonies. PETA has responded, pointing out that the Centre shouldn't celebrate seabirds and serve chicken in the same building.
