Sadako Sasaki was two when the atomic bomb hit Hiroshima. She was 12 when she died of leukemia caused by radiation. In her hospital bed, she folded 1,000 paper cranes for peace.

Today, we fold cranes in her memory & to build a safer world free from the threat of nuclear weapons. #CranesForOurFuture

We fold cranes to commemorate 80 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, inspired by Sadako Sasaki. She survived Hiroshima at two but died at 12 from leukemia due to radiation. In the hospital, she folded 1,000 cranes for peace. Her legacy lives on as we honor her wish. #CranesForOurFuture

81 years ago today, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed, and the world has never been the same.

Today, we fold cranes to remember those lost and fight for a safer future. #CranesForOurFuture

"Et si chacun créait une petite paix aujourd'hui, est-ce que l'on obtiendrait une grande paix ?" a demandé une fillette japonaise visitant Hiroshima.

Reducing and eliminating nuclear weapons is not only possible (there are about 51,600 fewer operational worldwide today than existed 40 years ago—84% less!), it is imperative if the human race—and all the other species with whom we share this planet—are to survive and flourish.

Ochenta años de la primera bomba atómica usada contra una población civil. Como dijo aquel, malditas sean las guerras y los canallas que las hacen.

Kei Ito is the grandson of a Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor.

His art explores the legacy of that trauma through themes of memory, identity, and the invisible impacts of nuclear war. #CranesForOurFuture

Kumiko Arakawa was 20 when the U.S. bombed Nagasaki on August 9. She barely remembers the aftermath, having lost her parents and four siblings. The following years were a blur as she worked to support her surviving relatives while recovering from the trauma. #CranesForOurFuture
