Can confirm. I had a dog for 10 years with pretty terrible separation anxiety who wasn't super destructive, but couldn't be crated. I mostly fixed it with medication and feeding him snacks every time I left the house.

if they do have separation anxiety i recommend working with a trainer who specializes in that because it can be really difficult to work on depending on the severity

Oof, that's rough. Is he destructive when left un-crated? If he's learned to associate crates with being locked up for hrs, that might be a tough climb, skill-wise. If possible, I'd maybe consider skipping the crate and/or designating a specific room a safe space (assuming he's not destructive).

We got a second dog. They’re crated when we’re not home. Separate crates, but they both know they’re not alone. tv is on for them. They get rewarded with pb cookies before we leave and when we return.

Also, we here in #NY21 are very good at protesting at our House Rep's office. We can do that for another two years, especially when he is functionally crated by the blue wave and can't do nearly as much hard as he intends.

For Crated testing, I’d ask each tester for only 3 things: first confusing step, first playback/library bug, and one thing that felt better than their current player. Keeping the report that narrow should make comparisons much easier and reduce vague “works for me” feedback.

Absolutely. 7 dogs, 7 crates. They LOVE their private space & it’s also where they eat (nobody steals their food). And when they are not crated, they go in anyway.
That said, I do have two with epilepsy, and they are never locked in their crates. I have to run them out!

Poor dog. Difficult to go in the kennel 🤦🏻♀️. Because he doesn’t want to be locked up! He also was probably crated by his previous humans a lot. God I hope someone wonderful adopts Mr Max. Sorry I can’t.

You’re doing a great job. You’re not a failure. It’s so difficult. We blocked off our living room for months with the crate in there. That way if T got too excited he could be crated, but otherwise it gave him a little more space. He mostly stayed on his bed.

The joy of large dog; they counter surf when given the chance. Which is why the frozen meat is thawing in cold oven rather than in sink. Last time wasn't that careful he took it to his crate and ate after I had crated him for the night.
