It's Halo: Combat Evolved not Halo: Combat Creationism

YES

I was waiting for this news! It's a huge deal. The Texas SBOE drives education trends for the whole country because the population is so big; they can choose textbooks, for example. Years ago they tried very hard to teach creationism in schools but were beaten back.
THIS JUST IN: Democrats have FLIPPED the Texas State Board of Education!

This is a monumental win for Texas students, families, and the entire education community in our great state.

Congratulations to our incredible candidates!

Creationism is massively tied up with anti-Catholicism KJV-Only stuff, which simply evolved (ho ho) into the naked "Christian nationalism", but that stuff was always latent.

They're putting Creationism into public school textbooks. That's what's happening here.

Staggering. TX SBOE shapes the standards and textbooks used across the country. Publishers write their books for the huge Texas market and then rewrite for other states. Ideologues have used that body to push racism, climate denial, creationism, and propaganda into classrooms. There’s a lot to fix.
THIS JUST IN: Democrats have FLIPPED the Texas State Board of Education!

This is a monumental win for Texas students, families, and the entire education community in our great state.

Congratulations to our incredible candidates!

One interesting thing is I haven't seen teaching creationism pushed very hard in the recent era of religious right political power. In Kansas 20 years ago, that was such a front and center issue I put trilobite fossils on my office desk.

It is why young earth creationism will never die, which is equally unfalsifiable and cringe.

Glasses, no tail, a weird obsession with creationism... Makes sense to me.

I remember Kitzmiller like it was yesterday. I honestly expected a *lot* more creationism in this administration.
Slavery: bad

They pushed creationism in waves, it was a big fight when I was in middle school um... fortyish years ago. So my school got college textbooks for us.

The ones who are deeper in the weeds about this literally believe that this is what everything from creationism to Darwinism were "invented" to hide along with modern architecture (they think neoclassical buildings are/were "really" contemporaneous to their inspirations)

Imagine thinking you need a creepy secret campaign to get academics to disavow this guy. Huge unforced error

The avalanche of regret and detransition is just a few years away.

And it always will be.

See also: the proof of creationism, the singularity, and Jesus coming back.

It's a core tenet of their faith.
It's pretty funny the way they keep pushing back the period of time people will experience regret and detransition to explain the lack of an avalanche, 5 years back it was "within 2 or 3 years", last time I ventured on twitter it was ten years, in 40 years time they'll be saying 50 years

Arguing with people who are very vocally pro-AI as an Ex-Evangelical just feels like same shit, different day. There's too much emotional investment to make any headway using facts or reason. It really follows the same patterns as trying to debate my uncle about Young Earth Creationism.

For those who don't know, Rufo crawled out the primordial slime of the Discovery Institute, a creationist astroturf shop here in Seattle.

For years, "intelligent design" (ID) proponents denied that ID is just a new label for creationism. However, it is now well-known that the first intelligent design "textbook," Of Pandas and People, is...

You want gender essentialism out of bio textbooks?

You want accurate information about enslaved Africans in history textbooks?

You want geologic time in (and therefore Young Earth Creationism out) of middle school science textbooks?

This is how you do it.

Cults have costly initiation rituals to ensure loyalty to the community. Sometimes it's stinging ants. Sometimes it's circumcision. Sometimes it's making an ass of yourself obstinately defending creationism. Sometimes it's pretending star wars prequels are good, actually.

The far-right think tanks are coming for us. Everything from anti-abortion zealots to teaching creationism through "Accelerated Christian Education", originates with them.
🔴 Later today Danny Kruger MP is giving a speech about Reform's preparation for government at Policy Exchange.

Policy Exchange won’t say who funds it. But we’ve found donations to its US fundraising arm jumped 74% last year

And that's not all.... 🧵

Donors and office holders linked to influential British right-wing think tanks have also given at least $26.5m to Trump’s Republicans ahead of mid-term elections

The Lost Cause: dead
Young Earth Creationism: dead
Alamo romanticism: dead
"Actually slavery wasn't so bad": dead

This was the BOE that kept that shit going for the whole country

Good fucking riddance
