Love’s Labour’s Lost: the musical

Very funny and with a wonderful cast. This was a lot of fun and so brilliantly staged.

Three Men in a Boat

A lot of fun and some effective staging. This was a preview so there were some errors but they dealt with them deftly and in some cases hilariously.

Till the Stars Come Down

Great staging and a very good cast to put on this show. Thought everyone did well.
The plot is a little predictable though and a bit soapy.

Aaand Union Theatre to see
Pericles (kind of)
An abridged musical version of the classic. This was very funny, featuring pirates, bawdy songs and a fab cast.
This has two more performances (17th and 18th)is only an hour long and there’s a great bar/cafe attached.

Shout out to smaller theatres coming up!

Twelfth Night at The Drayton Arms.
Reimagined in the 70s disco scene, featuring mad fashion, great music and some fine performers.
This is on until 26th Sept and deserves a good audience.

Oresteia

Absolutely brilliant! Modernised version of the Greek Tragedy. It was long but utterly gripping.

Jeeves Takes Charge

One man show. Quite funny. First half lifted directly from the books, and second veered away from them.

As You Like It

Love going to the Globe although the wooden seats are hard on the bum!
Fun and energetic production of this famous play. Costumes and wigs were so good too.

The Story

Trip to the National. Tense story about newspaper stories and how out of hand things can get. Wanted a little more resolution with one strand, but this was great theatre.

Avenue Q

This is a show I’ve wanted to see for a while, so I was extra pleased to get a great ticket for a great price.
It’s a lot of fun, adult humour, hugely irreverent and just downright hilarious.

Abigail’s Party

Not even the alerts going off every two minutes because ppl hadn’t turned off their phones, could ruin this for me.
Brilliant and hilarious production. Tamzin Outhwaite was super as Beverly.

The Comedy About Spies

Despite a 15 min stop when one of the leads suffered an injury, the understudy stepped up and the show maintained its hilarity. Very funny!

Cyrano de Bergerac

An adaptation, but still fairly faithful to the original. Some creditable performances particularly by the lead who really brought the production to life when she appeared.

Playing catch up here

How the Other Half Loves

An early Ayckbourn play shows him playing with time in a farce. Theme is adultery and is dealt with in a wittier and warmer way than The Truth. I don’t always like how he wrote women but here they all have their moment.

Beetlejuice

This was fun and darkly humorous. Bit different from the film. Liked the performances and the staging. Probably wouldn’t rush back but it’s clearly a show that has many fans.

Pride
So I think I’ve just seen my best show of 2026. This was brilliant. Amazing songs, great plot, superb voices and acting, wonderful characters and it really evoked the 80s. I full on sobbed at the end.

Wonderful play full of humour and heart. Adrian Lester as the lead gave a star performance and was beautifully lyrical.
