This is an amazing image of the old Belfast Joy family’s paper mill, situated at the junction of Cromac Street and Ormeau Avenue during the 18th century.

At the corner of Cromac St and East Bridge Street looking towards the almost full moon.
The red brick building is the popular St George's Market.

Revival whisky. Dunville's and McConnell's are both very old names in Belfast whiskey, but production stopped in the 1930's at both Royal Irish & Cromac distilleries. Now both brands are relaunched by Echlinville & Belfast Distilleries.

Last night reminded me of the 1980/90s bomb scares in Belfast. Lights out on Ormeau/Cromac junction. Everything was at a standstill. No one there directing traffic. My normal 20min journey took 1hr 40mins.

Cromac McCarthy, asshole that he was, got his real break when someone handed him a big fucking cheque to go write whatever, no strings attached.

Behind every really great writer lies coincidence of privilege, a patron, or the support of a publishing ecosystem that no longer exists.

Reminds me of walking through Cromac and up the Ormeau Road to get to work in the late 80s. On low tide mornings I’d try and hold my breath all the way to Donegall Pass because it stank so much.

I think the picture is hilarious - Cromac is just a bad anglo-pronunciation of the Irish word “cromóg”

Their whole opposition to dual signage, is fear, mostly fear that outward, inclusive Irish culture is cooler than ever, while the inward, exclusive loyalist/orange culture is in decline.

A great song from a great album!

I wonder how long these shops on Cromac St have been abandoned
