BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: BCRX) received FDA approval for ORLADEYO oral pellets to prevent hereditary angioedema attacks in patients aged 12 and older. The 150 mg once-daily formulation adds a pellet option alongside capsules for adults and adolescents, including those who have difficulty swallowing capsules. Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is the condition targeted by the preventive treatment.Approval was based on chemistry, manufacturing and controls information and data demonstrating pellet safety and tolerability compared with capsules. Pellets were previously approved for U.S. patients aged 2 to <12 years in December 2025. Across two clinical studies, 150 mg capsules produced a mean attack-rate reduction of 91% at 96 weeks and an 88% reduction in rescue medication use. These results were reported for capsules, not the newly approved pellets.
