I've been reading Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffery.
This is an incredibly cyberpunk book- and it came out two years *before* Neuromancer.

Once again wondering what I did to deserve such wonderful friends: a couple I know went to a used book fair tonight and picked up a bunch of vintage McCaffrey novels for me (I donated all of my paperbacks when I moved to Australia). The copy of Crystalsinger came with a wildly personal postcard.

The *only* thing that isn't Chillingly Prescient about the ~cyberpunk world of Anne McCaffery's Crystal Singer~ is that she assumes computers "won't change" very much in the future and so a modern surveillance state is, under the hood, running on COBOL.

My incredible haul from the local charity book sale for big brothers big sisters. There were also a bunch of European print dragonriders of pern books but I resisted.
