If you're in nyc a lot of the local supermarkets, i.e. not national chains are unionized under ucfw local 1500. Also a lot of the stores like ctown, keyfood etc aren't traditional chains. They're individual owned buying cooperatives
Pro tip: if you’re angry that your favorite retailer is abandoning DEI policies, shop #union. Your local unionized grocery store workers have a contract that protects their rights, promotes diversity in hiring, equal pay, and fairness. It’s not a magic racism-eraser but a unionized retailer 1/2

Let's calm down here please. If the city-owned grocery stores have a selection comparable to supermarkets in Leningrad circa 1965 they'll just go out of business, and either way you can still shop at consumer paradises like Gristedes or CTown for those 3 weeks a year you're not on the Riviera

UG. YES. PHL has this problem with Chinatown. Whenever a project is proposed in/around the area the response is how it will ruin the nature of Ctown, as if Ctown is some walled garden never to be disturbed, completely forgetting how/why Ctown came to be (the nativists pushed the Chinese there)

Ahold Delhaize and Albertson's Acme are the only mainstream national grocer in the metro, but local chains like ShopRite, King Kullen etc are also disinterested. Maybe fix that, because the small-format local chains like CTown, Key Food and Associated all have one thing in common: they're all bad!
