n Calgary, having access to a bike can be life-changing for young people. It’s not just about getting around, it’s about opening doors to education, employment, friendships, recreation, and a stronger sense of independence with a community. CycleFestYYC, taking place on June 6th, is built around that idea. Greater then a single-day festival, it’s a community initiative focused on making cycling more inclusive, accessible, and supportive for everyone. Organized by Youth en Route, the event brings together a range of programs designed to break down obstacles to cycling. From hands-on safety learning to beginner-friendly riding sessions and community programming, CycleFestYYC is about meeting youth where they’re at and helping them cycle forward with confidence. Calgary’s extensive network of pathways already makes the city one of the most bike-friendly urban environments in Canada. CycleFest builds on that foundation by inviting all Calgarians from experienced riders and newcomers alike to take part in a shared celebration of movement, learning, and connection. With rising transportation and maintenance costs, many families still face challenges when it comes to keeping bikes safe, functional, and affordable. CycleFestYYC helps address those challenges by connecting people with local supports and initiatives such as the Kids Bike Trade Up program, ensuring more youth and families can ride safely and affordably. At its core, the event reflects a bigger goal for the city: a Calgary where young people can travel through their communities with safety, confidence, and ease.
