La verdad es que fue la mejor introducción para un chaval de 12 años como yo en la época. Las dracofichas de colores, las miniaturas troqueladas, el dungeon de Zanzer... quitando la rules cyclopedia, es quizá la mejor versión de D&D básico.

Imagine going back in time and slipping those dudes the Rules Cyclopedia and a couple sets of dice. The world would be completely different

Rabbit holes abound, especially for centuries—anti-Masonic especially. Sigh. Fact check, debunking might help. The issue of motives and benefits always counts for something cyclopedia-masonica.org/claim-21-2/

If you look this man up in the cyclopedia you will see just how absolutely crazy and strung out he is. No joke!

Yeah, I think I agree. All of the BECM rules, plus extra from the Gazetteers, all in one book. Dense but concise.

And I think the black box D&D game that was released at the same time as the Cyclopedia is still the best D&D starter set.

I have long held that the best individual edition of D&D was the '92 Rules Cyclopedia. All in 1 (big) volume. Loved that ruleset, steal from it all the time.

@hannah I guess I will start with a copy of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and work my way up

I got a complete set of Charlie Brown's Cyclopedia for the kid because I used to get volumes at the grocery store when I was a kid but he was never really interested in it and outgrew it […]

Many of us TTRPG enthusiasts are going to be playing D&D this weekend, and for once, I'm gunna join you!

I ran/played a solo D&D game to see whether this infamous D&D hater can actually find enjoyment with the first true iteration of the TTRPG. Check it out, nerds!

That would be nice if somebody has made a cyclopedia of the different terms.
Or even just a post with multiple replies, describing the different terms/ a list

Wonder if that already exist

Thanks for all of this! "Cool and scary" was a pretty simplistic way of describing those paintings, I think his work in the Rules Cyclopedia is superb. It seems a bit difficult to find many people talking about his work online in English, which is a shame.

As for the “cool and scary” monster illustrations in the Japanese edition of the Rules Cyclopedia that you mentioned, those were by Makino En, who today creates his own OSR-style game systems. Makino is also the designer of the OSR-style system Dragon Castles RPG.

Thank you for the correction. I found your interpretation very interesting, but the character illustrations for the Japanese edition of the Rules Cyclopedia were actually done by Kazuto Nakazawa, who would later become a renowned anime director.

This is interesting, but there is one important error. What you identify as the Japanese edition of the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set is actually the Japanese edition of the Rules Cyclopedia. The Japanese edition of the Basic Set uses the same artwork as the English edition.

Pears cyclopedia from 1930 also has its uses!

This 200 year old "Cyclopedia of Law" is a fine gallimaufry of legal tidbits and jottings from the time. Anyone have to buy a present for a lawyer?
