If you're gen x or millennial, odds are you have known some people online for *decades*. Across multiple now-dead forums, across vast gulfs of time in internet years. You've probably got a friend group that outlived multiple sites.

You mean like the entire discography of Wolfsheim that I downloaded via ftp in 2000 from an ICQ friend who showed me how to use mIRC and join #ebm-music on dalnet?

Also, also... my memories of _so_ many undergrad hours on Nethack, Moria, and other Rogue imitators in the early 90s & so many late nights using mIRC to connect to channels on dalnet or undernet in the late 90s/early 00s.
