FUCK AI! FUCK DATA CENTRES!
BREAKING: AI stock futures plunge across the board as a Democratic blue wave takes shape in the midterm elections.

41 ballot initiatives pausing or banning data centers at the local level passed out of 41. Being anti data center is a bipartisan winning issue.

My small request for today: Don’t share anything from prediction markets. It’s not data, and at a moment when people want data that doesn’t exist yet, it’s just a bad idea.

Just........wow 🫨

35 of 35 (!!) ballot measures on data centres in US midterms vote to restrict data centre development

Yes, I would prefer NONE of my data be stolen or used in sinister ways, but at least China stealing my data is way less likely to impact my life than one of our equally evil U.S. tech companies stealing my data and selling it to the GOP fascists in DC whose boots they regularly tonguebathe.
I *want* a $30k BYD.

National security? Bullshit concern, because none of you ever got upset about 30 years of Chinese computers and consuner electronics.

CCP gets my data? DGAF, I'd rather Xi have my data then any US CEO, because at least he won't sell it to US data brokers or LLM companies.

A NYT investigation revealed GM sold customers’ data for eight years. It tracked how often they drove, how frequently they braked, and whether they exceeded speed limits. The data was sold to insurance brokers, who raised rates by as much as 22%.

Very much worth noting that among the biggest losers in this landslide so far: data centers, AI industry PAC recipients, and Elon Musk.

some shit that will help:

ban the ability to collect user data beyond like "amazon keeps your address so it knows where the package gets sent to"

ban the ability to sell that data to anyone for any reason

all ads are now dumb ads, cannot be targeted, you cannot have that data

On Election Day, 44 various data center moratoriums were on the ballot across America. 43 passed.

My hottest take: Maps are just a terrible way to represent voting data.

Our permitting bill saves ratepayers $55 BILLION alone just by requiring data centers to pay their fair share.

We're seeing 200% of our usual data traffic—and climbing! Thanks to all of you for making this a night to remember

The way to address people selling and misusing data is to regulate selling and misusing of data.

They aren't willing to do that because they love people selling and misusing data as long as it's an American company.
