I learned how much Homer Simpson weighed this week: 17 stone. I weigh more than he did when he deliberately became fatter to claim disabilty benefits. I'm told I carry it well but that's shaken me more than anything ever has. This has to change.

I wrote up a bit of a rant about how this trend I've seen in a few places, to call TikTok "digital fentanyl" is fucking ridiculous.

Due to SCOTUS fuckery Pride has been Extended one more month but we are shaing it with the Disabilty folks as well. Let's be real a lot of folks were already at both parties. Let's go kids this is Solidarity in action get the parade back out.

Disabled people like me on SSDI/SSI are the most heavily surveilled vulnerable people in society, with frequent civil rights violations, abuse and isolationist policies from clinicians, agencies, elected officials

Being disabled/chronically ill means constantly balancing two impossible tasks: convincing the state/doctors that you’re “disabled/sick enough” to deserve help and convincing everyone else that you’re “well enough” to be worth keeping around.

It’s wild to me how so many of us are dealing with *occupational conditions* like burnout and long covid. Yet “disabilty” is still taboo. Y’all. 🤔
There is a huge ableism problem in medicine, which drives the being able narrative
The idea that colleagues may have illness or disability is still anathema to many. Despite that, increasing numbers of doctors are living with significant illness or disability.

When I see people in the resistance using ableist language it gives me anxiety because disability erasure is very much present and I am very much scared that we will be left behind

I'm a proud American citizen, a veteran of 30 years. I'm also anti fascist. ICE doesn't have to track me down, my address is on my Navy pension and my VA disabilty check.
