The whole point of roleplaying games is, well, playing a role. Showing your players in the mirror kills the illusion and thus the point. The few successes some get with the metanarrative encourages less careful or skilled GMs to do it as well, to disastrous effect.

I think there’s a case that one can be against the carceral system in general, but recognize exceptional circumstance when it comes to those who abuse the power of the state. For example, supporting the Nuremberg trials, or believing failure to “punish” the Confederates was historically disastrous.

The government knew they wouldn't get a conviction. The government did it to deflect attention away from Trump's disastrous Iran war. The saddest thing about it: the United States government brought false charges against a decent man knowing they would lose and not caring what it would cost him.

I don't know how you read the Managerial/Front Office actions in any kind of good faith. The 25' season was so immediately disastrous that I cannot fathom not just letting your star players fully recuperate (all while basically lying to fans for the bulk of the season)
