A new research initiative is exploring the experiences of people who encounter nonhuman entities while under the influence of DMT, a powerful psychedelic. The project, called Eleusis, is launching a retreat on the Caribbean island of Bequia, combining therapeutic support with scientific study. Participants receive DMT through an IV infusion, which allows for controlled, extended sessions known as DMTx, providing a longer and more manageable psychedelic experience compared to traditional vaping or ayahuasca ceremonies. The research aims to investigate whether perceived encounters with highly intelligent, alien-like entities are purely hallucinatory or represent an untapped dimension of consciousness. While proponents like neurobiologist Andrew Gallimore argue that these entities could exist independently of the human mind, other experts, such as Robin Carhart-Harris and Susan Blackmore, suggest these experiences are the brain’s interpretation of highly complex sensory input. Eleusis combines DMTx sessions with practices like breathwork and sound healing, emphasizing both safety and personal growth.
