Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating a suspected serial rapist believed to be responsible for two separate attacks on women in south-east London, carried out four years apart. The first incident occurred in May 2020 near the Thames Path in Thamesmead, while the second took place on 19 June 2024 in a derelict area on Sewell Road in Abbey Wood. Both victims were reportedly attacked by a stranger in daylight hours in residential surroundings. In an effort to identify the suspect, investigators are using advanced forensic techniques, including familial DNA analysis. This method involves comparing DNA samples from the crime scenes with national databases to identify possible relatives of the offender, narrowing down potential suspects. The list of individuals sharing genetic links with the suspect has been compiled with the assistance of the National Crime Agency. Alongside the forensic work, the Metropolitan Police have released CCTV images and footage of a man they wish to identify, describing him as wearing a white vest, jeans, and white trainers. Despite previous public appeals, the suspect has not yet been identified. Authorities are now renewing their call for information, emphasising that even small details from the public could prove vital. Crimestoppers has also offered a £10,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction. Officers stress that the priority remains supporting the victims while continuing efforts to locate and arrest the suspect. Investigators are urging anyone who recognises the man or has relevant information to contact police or provide anonymous tips through Crimestoppers.
