I’ve played 7 of those 9 games. I played more of DOA2 Hardcore for the PS2. First PS2 game I bought and owned. I picked it over Tekken Tag Tournament and I’m more of a Tekken fan than DOA.

I'm still able to have fun with it despite its many problems, but seriously, how does it feel this unfinished? The grinding for player points and costume parts doesn't help.
My faith in DOA7 being anything remotely close to DOA2-DOA5 is so low given everything I see with DOA6LR.

DOA2 Hardcore will be the next PS2 playthrough once Ridge Racer V is done (still got offstream grinding to do) and I think I'll give it's "play elsewhere" judgement a fair due, I think I was harsh because while it is a worse looking version than Dreamcast, it's minor enough most wouldn't notice/care

Will note, Nyotengu who was a DLC character in DOA5U, her design did blend in well, especially if you remember Tengu (Bankotsubo) who was in DOA2, DOA4, and DOAD.
