During our game dev years, from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, my main pixel art tool was the Amiga's legendary Deluxe Paint ("DPaint") pixel editor.
These days, there's a free authentic recreation of DPaint, called PyDPainter. Grab it for free here:

I made all Moon Child graphics in Deluxe Paint ("DPaint") on an AGA (Advanced Graphics Architecture) generation Amiga. One of DPaint's features was a Shade mode, allowing you to shade using a palette color range.
This terminal didn't make it into MC. For fun, I had inserted a DPaint screenshot.

I've got a mate who can do fantastically dull psuedo house music on NoiseTracker, and another mate is really amazing at doing uninteresting bas-relief metallic logos on Dpaint

Spotting multiple Amiga references here. The Sonic Team letters are clearly colored using the DPaint pixel editor's gradient fill tool, and there's the "Amigo" on the signpost. 🙂

I grew up with pixels, way back in the 80-90. Doing my first digital artworks in DPaint. It gives me nostalgia and I just love the limitation and pushing pixel around.

I could have gone the easy route with DPaint or Mario Paint, but instead I chose adversity with Art Alive on Mega Drive in keeping with the BlueSky holiday spirit.
