I decided I need to draa Chun Li after seeing the Street Fighter movie. Am I off to a good start?

Also I found my censorship cutout.

Ait Mansour
Mon père est retourné dans la vallée du Draa et les gorges de tounda l'an dernier (ce n'est pas sa région natale, il visite en touriste). Tout était terriblement sec, rien à voir avec la verdure qu'il connaissait d'il y a 30 ans

Agdz gets skipped by most drivers rushing the Draa valley, but stay the night and the palm groves go silent. Walk out early, birdsong and irrigation channels, almost no one. Tamnougalt kasbah nearby is often empty. An afternoon here beats another hurried coffee stop.

Agdz doesn't get many overnighters, most people pass through on the Draa valley road. But the palmeraie out back of town is good for an early walk, date palms and old kasbahs, and the light before 9am is the reason to stay the night instead of pushing on to Zagora.

Agdz is where the Draa valley opens up and the light on the old ksar walls goes gold around 5pm. Stop for a real lunch, walk through the palm groves, look at the pottery. Small town, big south.

In Agdz, the date palm oasis along the Draa is best seen on foot, not from the car window. Park near the kasbah and walk the irrigation channels between the palmeries. Local farmers are usually happy to point you toward the old ksar.

Agdz is where the Drâa palms start and most people just pass through. The kasbah above the old mellah is unrestored, crumbling, and free to wander. Sunsets from up there over the palmeraie are the whole reason to slow down and stay a night.

The road south from Agdz to Zagora along the Draa is the point, not Zagora itself. Slow down. Palm groves, old ksour crumbling into the riverbank, villages where you can stop for tea. Drive it in the late afternoon light and don't rush the 100 km or so.
October 25, 2026 at 8:09 PM
Agdz isn't a place most people plan to stop, just a bend on the Draa road, but the old Glaoui kasbah above the palmeries is worth an hour. Nobody guards it, nobody sells tickets, you just walk up. Bring water and go before the heat builds.

Zagora gets called the last town before the desert but it's worth more than a fuel stop. The date palms along the Draa, the small museum of local history, the potteries just outside town. Have lunch, talk to people, then push further south. Rushing through it is a mistake.

There are still a few working potteries around Tamegroute, near Zagora, and the kilns are often fired the traditional way. If you are heading into the Draa, stop in, watch a while, and know the green glaze is real and local. Buying directly is fine but ask first before wandering in.

Oued Fodda in the Dades gets the photos, but Agdz is the sleeper. Sitting at the southern end of the Draa palm grove, most people pass straight through. Stop, buy bread, climb to the ruined kasbah above town, and you get the whole green valley nearly to yourself.

Agdz is a good excuse to slow down between Marrakech and the Draa Valley. The palm oasis has old ksour on both banks, mostly with nobody around, and the light in late afternoon turns the mudbrick walls orange. Way calmer than the bigger stops, and nobody's rushing you anywhere.

Mhamid is where the tarmac ends. Last real village on the Draa, a few shops, then stony desert to the Algerian border. The Erg Chigaga dunes are a couple of hours out on a piste, 4x4 only, so hire a driver in town instead of testing your rental car. Far emptier than Merzouga.
October 25, 2026 at 7:38 PM
Agdz is worth more than the through-route it gets treated as. From the kasbah at Tamnougalt you can look out over the whole Draa palmery, and the old Jewish quarter below is still standing, quiet and mostly empty of visitors. Go in the morning while the light is still long.

Fint is a 15 minute drive south of Ouarzazate and most travelers never hear of it. A palm oasis on the Draa, spring water running past the houses in open channels, mud brick walls, olives and pomegranates between the palms. The turnoff off the Agdz road is easy to miss.
October 25, 2026 at 4:30 PM
Nkob, on the road south from the Draa toward Tazzarine, is a palm oasis with dozens of old kasbahs packed between the groves, most still lived in rather than roped off. It's the usual base for Jbel Saghro walks, and February brings almond blossom. Otherwise you get the place to yourself.
October 25, 2026 at 4:22 PM
Agdz is a lunch stop for most drivers on the Draa valley run, which means the town gets ignored. Walk five minutes off the main road into the old palm groves and it goes quiet fast. Tamnougalt kasbah is a short drive out and usually empty. Worth an afternoon instead of a hurried coffee.
October 25, 2026 at 7:31 PM
Agdz is the town everyone drives through on the Ouarzazate to Zagora road, but it's the best place to stop in the Draa. Palm groves run for miles beside the river, and the old kasbah at Tamnougalt, a few km south, is quieter than anything on the main circuit. Worth a night, not an hour.
October 25, 2026 at 4:07 PM
Zagora is often just a gas stop before the desert, but stick around and you've got the palm groves along the Draa, plus some of the best pottery in the south. Friendly little workshops, no museum ropes, often just a guy at his wheel happy to show you what he's working on.
