I try not to spiral too much about our shattered CBD. FWIW I was a BART commuter to DTSF in the 2010s and it was crush loaded on all peak hours.

A service goal alternative to the T-Third in the late 80s/early 90s was connecting Bayview & similar neighborhoods to DTSF with BART-like frequency via electrified Caltrain and infill stations.

Integrated bus/commuter rail fares/routes with 2-4 TPH would have created 15m trips from Bayview.

Envision a new standard gauge BART service running through Tube 2 to Geary & Masonic, then splitting off to 19th Ave.
Then envision a new Muni std gauge heavy rail fleet (like Muni Rapid from 1967) sharing tracks from DTSF to Masonic and continuing in its own subway or elevated to Land's End.
