Wen makes an excellent one for about $550 and a good one for $400

the only real requirement, IMO, is a spiral cutterhead, but multiple speeds is handy if you hate sanding

I think the DW735 with a spiral head is better but you're then in for $1000 and it's not THAT much better

yeah. I don't have enough room for actual plumbing, hence my stupid magnetic connectors on a 4" tube, but the DW735 is a little frustrating because the body has enough plastic that I'm not sure the metal base is actually grounded anywhere

I probably wouldn't run 2.5" hose except to a shop vac fwiw

yeah the oliver (geetech aka chiu ting) planer does seem quite good, but is substantially more expensive than a DW735 even after a helical head upgrade.

I bought a Vevor 3HP 240V dust collector and have basically compromised my dust problems to a permanent end.

Now that I have a much bigger dust collector it is kinda moot, but the DW735 has its own fan and that helps a lot with smaller setups. (Also pictured: “cordless mode” and a needs-work magnetic connector that is screaming out for some ESD filament)

yeah, this one is about 90 pounds I think. It's about as heavy as my DW735. Base isn't cast iron, but there's a lot of steel.

unfortunately, that one you've got is Designed Bad, and is one of my go-to examples when people go "they don't make tools like they used to!" yeah, they're better
