New dish tonight! Dakdoritang, cause I saw it the other day and @toadally.bsky.social says it’s amazing.

Mine is not totally proper because I used Urfa biber instead of gochugaru and I just plain forgot to buy chilies.

It’s still frickin delicious tho.

I am taking full advantage of this rainy day to focus on self care. I haven’t doomscrolled once. Instead, I’ve been watching The Traitors and cooking a batch of dakdoritang (a spicy Korean chicken stew). Did I have to cut the carrots into flowers? But of course! #koreanfood 🍽️

The dish is topped with a drizzle of sesame oil, a smattering of chopped scallions, & toasted sesame seeds. Braised chicken drumsticks in a spicy sauce made with garlic, gochugaru and gochujang. The braised dish includes halved baby yellow potatoes and carrots. Topped the dish with chopped scallions and a drizzling of toasted sesame oil. Chicken prepared in a large green cast iron Dutch oven.

I added more liquid than the recipe called for & it ended up too thick. It tasted great, tho. #veganfood 🌱🍽️🍜
The described #Vegan dish served in a wide, shallow bowl. The dakdoritang has large chunks of soy curls, sweet potato, carrots, & mushrooms enveloped in a very thick sauce. Inspiration recipe: https://www.koreanbapsang.com/dak-doritang-korean-spicy-chicken-stew/ Modifications: I used sweet potato as the author recommends for those who don't have potatoes on hand, soy curls in place of chicken, & added the optional mushrooms. I used a red Fresno pepper in place of the optional red chili pepper and added extra garlic cloves. These options & changes all worked well. However, I also added some of the soy curl marinade broth to the sauce because I was worried the recipe lacked enough fluid in the crockpot. This caused the sweet potatoes & carrots to break down too much, resulting in smaller than expected vegetable chunks and a thick sauce instead of the beautiful silky sauce shown in the author's picture. It didn't affect the taste (which was wonderful), but when I make this again, I will follow the author's instructions to the letter.
