June 30, 2017 - #RIP to former @trailblazers center #DarrallImhoff passed away this day in 2017.

Imhoff, an @ncaa.bsky.social Champion with @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social in 1959 and a member of the
#NaismithBasketballHOF as a member of the Gold Winning
#USABasketball team in Rome.

#RipCity 🙏
Imhoff, who was the third player chosen in the 1960 @NBA Draft, after fellow #Olympian teammates #OscarRobertson and #JerryWest, played 12 seasons in the #NBA, finishing with the #Blazers in 1971. During the Blazers championship season, Imhoff worked alongside #BillSchonely on the radio for #Portland home games, including the Title clinching game vs his former #Sixers team. While #Schonz made his way to the winning locker room, Imhoff sat courtside on a live mic talking of the madhouse on the court and reading the stat sheet until Bill was back on the air. When I asked him about that years later, he laughed and hoped that most people didn't hear it as they would have been celebrating too. In later years, Imhoff was active with the Blazers Alumni Team and I had the pleasure of sitting with the "Axe" and #DaleSchlueter as my "assistant coaches" as I "coached" the Alumni team in 1998. They were both truly great people to sit with and gone too soon.

February 27 1972 - Among many pushes, shoves, and swinging of fists, the @trailblazers.bsky.social lost their 10th straight game.

#RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
With 4:54 left in the 4th quarter, #AtlantaHawks center #BobChristian and #Blazers center #DaleSchlueter both went after a rebound. "Christian jumped on my back and I threw an elbow at him," said Schlueter, who added, "I didn't hit him but I threw it at him." Words were exchanged and then Christian connected to Schlueter's face, causing a 1-inch cut that forced Schlueter to the locker room for stitches. @NBA Official #JerryLoeber did call a foul on Christian but not a technical foul. As Schlueter was unable to shoot the FT's, #Hawks coach #RichieGuerin was able to select the Portland player to shoot the FTA. #RonKnight, who had slid towards the end of the bench this season, was selected and he missed both attempts. As the game continued on, #Atlanta, who never trailed, kept #Portland at bay despite attempts to close the gap. Trailing 109-103 with 45 seconds remaining, #GeoffPetrie drove the lane, scored and connected on a FTA to close it to within 3 points with :27 seconds left and the Blazers put on a press. Despite an aggressive double-team, Hawks forward #LouHudson, who scored 32 points, was able to get a pass to #PeteMaravich. Portland guards #LarrySteele and #RickAdelman doubled up on Maravich, with Steele stripping the ball away from the #Pistol, and went in for lay up with 18 seconds left to cut the deficit to 1 point. Maravich, after bumping Steele as he was receiving the inbound pass from #HermGilliam, proceeded to throw punches at Steele. Once order was restored, Steele was whistled for a backcourt foul, giving Maravich 2 FTA. #SidneyWicks hit a jumper with 10 seconds left but Maravich was given 2 more FTA to provide the final score of 113-110. Wicks led the #Blazers with 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Schlueter grabbed 15 rebounds before he was removed, and added 18 points. Hudson tied Wicks for scoring honors with 32, while Maravich added 26 points, including 14 of 18 FTA for the #Hawks. This Blazers losing streak would extend to a club record 13 straight losses, which would be matched in 2013. There have been seven other times during the years that the Blazers have a losing streak of at least 10 games.
