I did work at Daresbury Synchrotron many years ago, and there were models of DNA everywhere as were posters bigging her up.

Intended to visit RSPB Burton Mere whilst on the Wirral this morning, but as it was 3hrs until reserve opening time I took in the Daresbury Woodchat Shrike on way home, and what an obliging individual it was. No doubt a nice WTF moment for the finder on presumably a routine local walk. #UKBirding

They had even built the accommodation for the beam line scientists at Daresbury, which then got immediately bulldozed.
And now it sits on an Oxfordshire bog rather than a nice solid bit of igneous rock.

For those focusing on the post industrial narrative about Runcorn, the area also had a strong science base with ICI The Heath and might have taken a rather different path had the Blair government not decided to locate the new synchrotron at Harwell rather than the existing site at Daresbury.
