Also to be clear, even though I have it for some reason (free prime game?) Thief 4 is absolutely not happening lol I have heard nothing to make that sound interesting. If I do more in Thief it'll probably be trying out more darkmod FMs

Just for a bit of more context I installed DarkMod and played the default maps. It's honestly a really good feeling engine and I might play with it more after I'm done with Thief 3

Vision in The Darkmod seems really annoying and reading up on it, they're trying to be way too smart about it, sampling light values and shit over the mesh randomly and like wow that's fucking stupid like okay its NEAT but whats the upside?? "Realism"? Fuckers can't see you even when you're backlit!

SO WITH LOCKPICKING, Darkmod adds one extra layer to things (which you can disable) which is you gotta listen to know when to stop and switch picks. I'm not sure it's better in the context of the whole experience, but it's still a whole lot of texture for so little "mechanic". Adds JUST enough skill

Darkmod: Cauldron of the Gods. My first playthrough, I accidentally performed a ritual in a secret shrine on a roof. Then the sky was filled with floating glowing skull things and I panicked, thinking I'd brought about the end of the world. They were paper lanterns for the festival.
