(Consider whether use of Small Multiples, Databars, CF etc might DIRECTLY show users required comparisons without them having to click a goddamn single thing).

I am PISSED that #PowereBI databars *still* don’t have dynamic formatting. Databars are the most space-efficient visual there is; and I would never use a bar chart if I could use multiple columns of databars instead. But one freakin color with no highlighting sucks.

In the interview mention low hanging fruit like missing fx options for databars and moonshots like orthogonal groupings for bars/lines/columns, not just for Small Multiples.

A table can also be a really compact series of aligned bar charts thanks to Databars (which granted are limited in #PowerBI), feeding pop-up linecharts via tooltips where useful.

It looks slick. I can see many of my pet peeves on there. On quick inspection I can't immediately see things like Bookmarks (can't say I'm surprised there), CF improvements (again, databars ), Slicer UX (Select All Results; Invert Selection) and the like.

Transparency good. Shipping is better.

Just imagine if conditional formatting things like databars accepted conditional formatting.

The solution is to make the Dynamic Formatting more dynamic: Allow users to choose via a disconnected slicer exactly what they want to see:
* Just the amount
* Just the %
* Both amount and %

And because it's formatting only, you can still have databars behind those numbers showing quantum.

Venting bigtime here, but we've got this fuck-awful CoPilot shit, and meanwhile where are my human-usable visualizations I've been asking for, for years? Fuck it.

Then there's #PowerBI's "Conditional" Formatting. It's misnamed, because it is hardly conditional. You can't set things by DAX; you can't conditionally change the colors of specific DataBars; the color picker doesn't even remember the last color you used elsewhere in the app.

Take databars. Most space-efficient visual there is. But no mitigation around obscuring of numbers; can’t conditionally set or change colour; color-picker doesn’t even REMEMBER last choice. And that’s their implementation of one *basic* viz device. Similar lack of design is in every bloody corner.

I would WANT CoPilot to try adding databars in a matrix given they are such a space efficient way of giving numbers context. But to use a technical term, the implementation of this by #PowerBI designers with no idea about gestalt etc to guide them was "fucked" back then, and is "fucked" today still.

It really me off that the "Conditional Formatting" option of #PowerBI databars does not itself let you use conditional formatting to DYNAMICALLY change things like min/max or gradients on what the user might be filtering on.

But how fucking hard is it to give us stuff like pop-ups over column headers so we can - I don't know - tell users what the numbers underneath actually mean? Or to have databars that can actually change color and not obscure data?

Yes, we will get trickle down through the lens of cards. And THAT is what worries me.

Don't get me wrong - I could use better cards. But every engagement I have, I come across the same pain-points: static Small Multiples; blunt bookmarks; dumb Databars; Crappy CF; meh matrices.

Out of ALL my #PowerBI gripes, this is possibly my biggest, maybe requiring the smallest investment to fix:

DataBars are mini charts; a Matrix lets us stack them side by side; but we can't scale them correctly, we can't dynamically flag anything, we can't dynamically do jack shit.

Cards feels like Duplo to me. I need solid basics to combine into killer data apps, like:
-Small Multiples with TopN that let users change # of panels and scale.
-Databars with CF.
-Bookmarks that call bookmarks
-Global control over series color
-Highlighting of single series in linecharts
