Databot gets comfy in her blanky burrito

Not yet. Positron has so many features and constant updates that make it hard to follow. I will try the databot at some point.

databot is possibly my favorite bluesky feed

Why do they need to have mammalian sexual characteristics to transition though?

Would they even have human conceots of gender/sex? If a databot upgrades itself into an armament, or a repair bot upgrades to a medical synthsizer, is that not also transitioning? Often from/to socially defined roles?

Hey R and Python folks at #NICAR26 looking at coding agents for data analysis: Databot from Posit (formerly RStudio) is another option. It's an assistant for the Positron IDE specifically designed for data work.
See a demo from September's Posit conference:

Maybe in another year or two? Two years ago, I don't think frontier models were ready to power Databot either!

Because it can get very hot in the workshop rooms during @fosdem.org Junior, I made a little MIT App Inventor app that is receiving data from a databot sending the CO2 level, temperature and humidity every 10 seconds. I used @microblocks.bsky.social to program the databot.

I want to publicly thank @jcheng5.bsky.social for being willing to write this post, laying out how our AI tooling has evolved (including those eyebrow-raising product names)! 😅

Actually, on the Databot page, Joe Cheng has a nice essay explaining his own concerns, largely similar to mine.

Unfortunately, I can't try it out yet. As of now at least, one apparently needs a paid Claude account. I only use free LLMs.

As a computer scientist who still finds computing just as exciting as I did many eons ago, Databot looks really cool! But as a statistician who finds users of statistics understand what they're doing less and less these days, I find this app highly concerning. Data analysis should not be automated.

Very interesting read, making the important distinction between software dev and data analysis workflows. Data analysis is more iterative than software dev because you mostly don't know what the final state of the analysis should look. Iteration is key.

Will definitely try the positron databot.

Nice! looking forward to it. Databot is my favourite feed on bluesky right now 👍

@olihawkins.com Hi, do you have a writeup somewhere of the classifier you're using for databot?

Databot is an exciting new LLM tool for exploratory data analysis, but to use it safely and effectively, you still need the critical skills of a data scientist.
