Today is #DayOfTheHomeschooledChild. A day to recognize the abuse and neglect that happens to homeschooled children due to a lack of regulation and community care. Homeschooled kids are uniquely at risk. My own childhood reflects that there aren't sufficient protections in place.

I believe my sister would still be with us if she had not been so deeply abused at the hands of our homeschooling parents.

It’s the #DayoftheHomeschooledChild when we recognize children who were kept away from school only to experience abuse and/or neglect at home.
Some, sadly, did not survive.

Be a #VoiceforReform and speak up for the rights of every child to receive a safe education.

#DayOfTheHomeschooledChild is one of the most important projects I’ve ever had the privilege of bringing to life. Please join us tomorrow as we call for the change needed to ensure that children who are homeschooled are safe and educated.
April 30 is Day of the Homeschooled Child, a day to recognize all children harmed by lax homeschool laws. Here are four easy ways you can help us raise awareness of this issue on Wednesday:

Today, I’m wearing green for the third annual #DayOfTheHomeschooledChild. I “made it” as a closeted gay homeschooled student.

Not everyone is so lucky.

Nationwide, it’s legal to pull your kids out of school and start homeschooling them at any time, with almost no exceptions.

All of this is why organizations like @responsiblehs.bsky.social + #DayoftheHomeschooledChild and #MakeHomeschoolSafe are so important.

We have to talk about the real harm that religious homeschooling has caused.

As a teacher, I want to make sure that harm doesn't take over public schools, too.

#2: Wear green. On April 30, dress in green to stand in solidarity with people who have experienced homeschool abuse. You can also share a picture on social media with the hashtag #DayOfTheHomeschooledChild and tagging CRHE here or on Instagram: www.instagram.com/responsibleh...

CRHE may have taken a day meant to mourn the lives of the children lost b/c of lax homeschool law and turned it into a self-congratulatory book tour stop, but I will never forget what #DayOfTheHomeschooledChild really means: what we owe to every suffering homeschooled child. @jessduit.bsky.social

[Content note: some descriptions of child abuse and neglect] In 2023, I created an annual day of awareness for kids abused in homeschool settings. It was called Day of the Homeschooled Child, and it r...

So...maybe I will make a #DayOfTheHomeschooledChild post.

I wasn't a great reader growing up. I need a good glasses prescription and the right ADD meds, and it's hit or miss whether I can successfully obtain those for myself as an adult.

I didn't have access to a successful combo as a kid.
I have been publishing YA novels for 20 years. I have seen a lot of nonsense written about the category, but this HarperCollins imprint has set a new bar.

If anything is “cynical” or tailored for “shock value,” it’s this campaign, which might as well be from Moms for Liberty.

This is loathsome.
