On second listen of Defiant Life now: this is definitely something special. Very minimalist suite with Smith in quintessential free & spacey mode, underpinned by Iyer with electronic drones as often as piano (and some really nice Rhodes); liner Q&A very enlightening. Worth getting immersed in.

Absorbed by the contemplative wonder and power of @vijayiyer.bsky.social (piano, Fender Rhodes, electronics) and Wadada Leo Smith’s (trumpet) latest collaboration. At turns, melancholic, menacing and hopeful. The final track ‘Procession: Defiant Life’ captures it all in sound and title.
