This thread is of course to mark today being Restart a Heart Day (cue influx of people pointing out that defibrillators technically stop the heart)

This is a reverse one - bit every contemporary medical drama still has defibrillators with paddles - yes yes , very dramatic , congrats , but we stopped using paddles a couple of decades ago .
Prompts a fun question: whats the most niche historical inaccuracy in a piece of work that annoys you

Not like 'oh they were referring to the wrong king' , more 'they had the wrong king on a banknote in one scene'
Why do book characters consistently have wildly anachronistic names.

Anne Hathaway is currently playing a Colleen Hoover character who is a women in her early 40s in the 2020s named *Verity Crawford*

Other media does not do this, if this was an original film she’d be called Lucy

there was also a danish translator present in the testing process where the defibrillator maker took us to their site for 2 weeks to put their defibrillators in every possible scenario while we translators checked that the correct, unambigous instructions were displayed on the screen.

A nice community thing in Denmark:

If you’ve taken a first aid class and learned to use a defibrillator, you can become a Hjerteløber (heart runner) - If someone within a radius of 5 km has a heart attack, you’ll get an alert on your phone + their location. There are defibrillators available

Police cars are often the first emergency response vehicle at the scene, but are not always equipped with life saving equipment, such as defibrillators. I have been working with the OurJay Foundation for Jamie’s Law, which would require every police vehicle to carry a defibrillator.

1 . Wanton abuse of defibrillators
2. I.V. rips.
It hurts like f*ck, you will start bleeding and the bag contents will go EVERYWHERE.
2. Decent pain relief and anaesthetic before laudanum, etc

We've also seen continued growth of The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, helping people locate registered defibrillators quickly when every minute counts.

CPR education became mandatory in schools, defibrillators were rolled out across the school estate, and CPR questions were introduced into the driving theory test.

Google should mark defibrillators on their maps. It woild also be handy if you could quickly bring up your EIRCODE when calling an ambulance.

@bsky.app Today I refreshed my CPR training with @londonambulance.nhs.uk and heard about their work to increase the number of defibrillators available in Battersea.
