Really not a fan of layering/delayering. 3-4 more months of this shite 😖

Companies are increasingly cutting middle-management roles, particularly in the tech and health care sectors. What is behind this bout of “unbossing”?

The pandemic-induced hiring spree led to overpromotion, swelling managerial ranks. Now companies are shedding the excess

Plenty of firms, including Amazon and Walmart, are talking up their use of AI and firing managers. But the cull seems to have little connection to ChatGPT

Middle managers never have it easy. In the popular mind they personify corporate bloat. But lately they have had an especially hard time

Initiate delayering manoeuvers!

I thought it was a great representation of the precariat in terms of the corporate delayering sweeping through middle management at the time.

Great lightning talk at CCC on reverse engineering an iPod nano on a shoestring budget.

Delayering PCBs using sandpaper and patience. Oh and decapping the SoC too, coz why not?

tbh this one seems self-correcting: recent layoff ideology has been heavily focused on "delayering" / firing middle management. Idk that the ownership class has that much more sympathy for professional managers than for labor.

Lead any amount of people for any amount of time (as the OP clearly has) and you quickly learn what a span of control is and what happens when it’s too wide. Whether you call it delayering or flattening, the end result is a span of control that’s too large.
anyone who doesn't understand the value of middle management has never actually been a manager.

the problem with these VC bozos is that they didn't work their way up the ladder, they got someone to throw them a bunch of money to go straight to CEO and they have no clue how an organization works.
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Block who laid of 40% of the company due to AI efficiencies, describes how to judge the success of their AI adoption.

He plans to reduce management layers from 5 managers between a worker and the CEO to 2-3 this year. The ideal is eventually 0 and all 6000 people report to him.

Money. No minister wants to stand up and defend civil servants being paid "excessive salaries". Just look at the furore around local government Chief Executives (or, for that matter, MPs' salaries). Why performances pay pots are always capped and why grade inflation has destroyed delayering.

if you take care of your discs the only real long term risk is rot/delayering. vhs tapes are at risk every time you play them especially if you haven’t fixed up your player since the last time you saw a VHS repair tech in the classifieds lmao

Delayering longjohns, knee warmers, wool shorts, wool skirt over winter-weight pants as windshield, is exercise all on its own. 😮‍💨 🥶

On which point, Hezza did prompt a big delayering exercise in the senior civil service and at one stage wanted to set the pay of individual members of the SCS. If Mars can do it, why can't the government was his question. Fortunately, persuading him otherwise was way above my pay grade.

Oh, I hate that. I've only recently realised that getting overheated has a triggering effect on me. Now I've started delayering whenever the urge to rip people's heads off overcomes me. It helps a little. I've not ripped anyone's head off yet!
